NYKE Indoor Kite Flying

No, there are not big fans… Instead the members of New York Kite Enthusiasts (NYKE) use ultra-light kites and short lines to accomplish indoor flight. The sport has been around for about ten years and has been growing rapidly. Many innovations in building materials have allowed this sport to flourish. Wooden dowels have been replaced with Carbon-fiber rods and newspaper sails are now made from rip-stop nylon, weighing only ˝ ounce per square yard. These kites that are so light that all that is need to fly them is movement of the flyer. The resulting constant spinning and turning movement of the kite and the flier have a very dance like quality. Combined with some appropriate flying music the indoor flying provides a very entertaining performance.

The New York Kite Enthusiasts are currently looking for a place to fly indoor this winter season... If you have a lead on an indoor space with a minimum of 14 foot ceilings and a ventilation system that can be shut down, please feel free to contact us!
